  • COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT) GROUP

I did a CBT  group with 2 other individuals. We worked with youth ages 15 - 17/18. In this group we would present information about emotions, thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, and how they interact and influence each other. We covered a variety of topics, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and more. We introduced and gave them different techniques to help them work through, manage, and cope with different feelings that may arise in different situations and be able to control them and express them in a safe and affective manner.

  • SHADOWING COUNSELLORS

During this practicum, I had the opportunity to sit in on sessions and observe counsellors and clients. I would observe how counsellors interact and how they handle different situations. Many counsellors allowed me to join in and ask questions and comment on situations and wanted my perspective on it. I was able to build good rapport with many clients that I observed and joined in on. There were moments that made me a lot more confident in my counselling ability and the skills associated with it. I had many moments where I noticed things and was able to get clients to feel comfortable enough to open up and express feelings or what was going on. This was a very influential and memorable opportunity for me to have experienced.
